Editing a manuscript goes through two steps at least. After the first edit, I will send the file back to you so that you can see what edits I made and reply to any questions I may have left in the comments. The next step would be for you to save the file and send it back to me. I will then go over all the comments and perform a final proofread. Larger manuscripts, theses or manuals for example, require more time and more run-throughs to focus on the many elements involved in those types of work. So make sure to allow enough time for editing and proofreading.
An editor’s job goes far beyond spelling and grammar. While editing your manuscript, I will go over it several times from beginning to end checking the many elements involved in good scientific writing. Each read-through would focus on one element. Following are the main elements of writing I review, usually along with stylistic requirements specific to each manuscript.
